Feeding your pet an appropriate food in the proper way is one of your most important roles as an owner. 

Nutrition can have a major impact on the way your pet looks, feels and acts.

Studies have shown how proper nutrition fed in proper quantities over a lifetime can help extend a pet’s healthy years.

Body Condition

As an owner, keeping your pet in ideal body condition starts by choosing a nutritionally complete and balanced pet food.

Then, you should work with your veterinarian to evaluate your pet and come up with a plan to maintain your pet at ideal body condition. An ideal body condition rating is based on the Body Condition System.

The Body Condition System is a 9-point scale used by veterinarians. Evaluation is made by visual observation and by feeling the pet’s body. As a rule, pet's should be maintained at a 5 for cats and 4 or 5 for dogs on this scale. Unfortunately, many pet's in America today are too heavy, and many owners tend to think their pet's are leaner than they actually are. That’s why it’s important to work with your veterinarian to evaluate and develop a feeding plan for your pet.
